Sheetz, a popular convenience store and restaurant chain with numerous locations across West Virginia, has earned a spot on the 2025 list of “America’s Most Innovative Companies,” released by Fortune in collaboration with Statista.
Recognized as a standout in the retail and convenience sector, Sheetz was the only convenience chain to make the prestigious list this year. The company was honored for its forward-thinking approach and continued efforts to develop new ideas, products, and services aimed at enhancing the customer experience.
Sheetz’s commitment to innovation is evident in its history of industry-firsts. The company introduced touch-screen ordering long before it became a retail standard and has since added features like drive-through service, voice-activated ordering via Amazon Alexa, and Scan & Go technology, which became especially valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the sustainability arena, Sheetz has also been a leader in electric vehicle infrastructure, surpassing two million EV charging sessions in 2023.
In 2019, the company opened a dedicated office in Pittsburgh to explore emerging business opportunities and redefine the future of convenience. By 2023, Sheetz doubled the size of this facility, reflecting its rapid growth and continued investment in innovation.
Fortune and Statista selected 300 U.S. companies for the 2025 innovation list based on assessments of product development, operational innovation, and organizational culture. The rankings were derived from surveys completed by employees, industry experts, consultants, and patent attorneys, evaluating both internal practices and external perceptions of innovation.
With its inclusion on this year’s list, Sheetz continues to solidify its reputation not just as a convenience store, but as a forward-looking company driving change in the retail space.
