A transmission line failure has left more than 20,000 residents without electricity in southern West Virginia, according to officials with First Energy.
The outage is affecting homes and businesses across Pocahontas, Summers, Greenbrier, and Monroe counties. The City of Hinton confirmed the extent of the outage in a statement posted on social media earlier today.
Crews from Mon Power, a subsidiary of First Energy, have been dispatched to the area and are currently working to restore service. Officials say they hope to have power restored within the next several hours.
No further details about the cause of the transmission line failure have been released. Residents are advised to check with local emergency services for updates and to take necessary precautions during the outage.
